WATER DETECTION & WARNING SYSTEMS
Wet, slippery, and/or flooded roads are killers. ELTEC has designed a sensor that detects both conditions and allows motorists to be forewarned.
Both systems utilize ELTEC’s unique solid state non-corrosive sensor. The sensor operates in salt/sea, brackish, fresh and icy slush; it does not function with ice. When the sensor gets wet, it acts like a switch applying power. This in turn causes either a flashing beacon to turn ON or a signal to be applied to a transmitter. The transmitter sends a signal to a receiver that causes remote beacon(s) to begin flashing. The detector pole can hold the flashing beacons if desired.
The flashing beacon(s) will continue to operate as long as the water is detected by the sensor. When the water recedes or evaporates and the detection circuit no longer senses water, the flasher(s) stop operating, or the transmitter sends a ‘clear/reset’ signal to the receiver causing it to stop the remote LED’s from flashing.
The High Water or Wet Road Warning Systems can be AC or DC powered
HIGH WATER WARNING
ELTEC’s High Water Warning System utilizes a pole mounted submersible sensor housed in galvanized piping, positioned at the desired high water detection point. When the water touches and rises above the sensor level, the two stainless steel electrodes close the circuit turning on the flashing road beacons or a transmitter. The LED’s flash continuously as long as the flood waters are detected.
FEATURES and BENEFITS
-
No Moving Parts: Mechanical Float Switches can Jam
-
Immune to Trash and Debris
-
Doesn’t Wear Out: No Mechanical Float Switches
-
Immune to Corrosion: Won’t Rust
-
Operates in Salt/Sea, Brackish and Fresh Waters
-
Waterproof Pole Housing; Wires Not Exposed to Water
-
Intrinsically Safe: No sparks
-
Activates Beacon as long as Flood Waters are Detected
With the High Water Warning System optional features are available to enhance the system’s effectiveness. Multiple sensors can be added to trigger specific actions with each level of flooding. For example, the lowest mounted sensor would turn ON the flashing beacons; the next sensor would lower gates, etc.
Additional devices such as a camera or radio can be added. Radio communication is versatile. It can:
Report flooding to a central location
Send alerting emails through the internet
Programmed to make phone calls with a pre-recorded message announcing the specific site that’s flooded.

WET ROAD WARNING
Some roads with curves are extremely slippery when wet. A road side embedded sensor warns motorist to SLOW DOWN or SLIPPERY WHEN WET prior to reaching those areas of concern.
ELTEC’s sensor is embedded in the pavement near the outside edge of the roadway shoulder, or if impractical installed in a concrete core along side the road. In either case the top surface of the sensor is level and flush with the surrounding pavement. A wire connects the sensor to the flasher for distances up to 50 feet.
