RECTANGULAR RAPID FLASHING BEACONS "Light Bar"

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has granted interim approval for optional use of Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB) to supplement standard pedestrian and school crosswalks signs (but not with the school zone speed limit sign) at uncontrolled approaches, functioning solely as a warning beacon.

The RRFB is a rectangular shaped, high intensity LED, which flashes in a wig-wag flickering pattern. The alternating strobe pattern (left light ON; then right light ON) provides direct, ultra bright concentration as well as wide-angle intensity.

ELTEC has designed a "light bar" which houses the two amber lightheads. The LED's are recessed to deter vandalism. It mounts to a standard 4½ inch pole.

Two finishes are available: federal yellow or brushed aluminum. All components are designed, manufactured and assembled in the U.S.A.

According to the FHWA's data, the RRFB had very high rates of motorist "yield to pedestrians" compliance (high 80% to close to 100%) compared to standard beacons (15%-20% range.)
